International Women's Day is just around the corner and the City of Vienna is sending out a strong signal with the Vienna Women's Weeks: Around 200 free events offer space for important topics - from Mental & Emotional Load, AI & Gender to Financial Literacy. A great initiative that we, as a company founded and managed by women, could not miss out on.
We attended an exciting lecture on the topic of emotional load - an often overlooked but important topic. After all, emotions are omnipresent: at work, in our private lives and in society at large. But who bears the emotional responsibility? Who makes sure that everyone feels comfortable, that needs are recognized and fulfilled? It's usually women.
What does emotional load mean exactly?
- Feeling (often unconsciously) responsible for the emotional well-being of others
- Perceiving, regulating & fulfilling the needs of others - often at the expense of one's own
- Particularly present in social professions, in the service sector & in the family
The effects? Long-term strain on health, well-being and relationships.
So a big thank you to Barbara Schrammel MSc and Julia Schaffner MA for their informative presentation, which raised important questions:
- Why is emotional work still predominantly in women's hands?
- Where is it valuable - and where does it become a burden?
- How can we create a fairer distribution?
Tomorrow, March 8, we celebrate International Women's Day - an opportunity to make inequalities visible, strengthen dialog and drive change together.
