Whilst each of these may be sensible and necessary in its own right, taken together they quickly become a burden.

If a willingness to change is demanded on a permanent basis, this can eventually lead to change fatigue.

Change fatigue describes a state in which the energy and willingness to embrace further change gradually diminish because one’s own resources are being depleted by ongoing or parallel change processes.

However, change fatigue is not always immediately recognisable. It often manifests itself gradually, for example through withdrawal, indifference or declining engagement.

This is precisely why sensitivity to the issue is needed. Organisations and managers should be aware of possible signs, recognise them and not be too quick to interpret them as a lack of willingness to change or resistance.

After all, the ability to change is not merely a question of an individual’s willingness to adapt. Organisations bear the responsibility for consciously managing change, setting priorities and avoiding overload caused by too many changes taking place simultaneously.

What does this mean specifically? Looking at the bigger picture helps:
– Which changes are currently taking place simultaneously?
– What really takes priority?
– Where do staff need guidance and opportunities to get involved?
– Where is time deliberately needed for stabilisation, so that new developments can become part of everyday working life?

At hrdiamonds, we guide organisations, leaders, teams and individuals through change processes, helping to provide direction, strengthen resources and embed change sustainably into everyday working life.

Would you like to guide change processes in a targeted manner and shape them for the long term?
